Japan Trip - Part one

Visiting the homeland of Marie Kondo

In March 2024 I traveled to Japan with a friend and fellow small business owner to learn more about organizing and develop my knowledge of how small spaces impact this work. I was excited to see the Cherry Blossoms and to learn about how a small country like Japan approaches space, design, and material possessions.

The overarching emotions I experienced were delight, awe, and appreciation for the ways in which user-centered design is at the forefront of spaces, services, and products. Thoughtfulness and consideration for how bodies engage and interact in spaces seemed to be the baseline for daily activities - everything from taking a train or catching a bus to choosing stationary products or ordering food. I was fascinated with how conscientiousness and pleasure influenced gardens, schools, shops, and museums.
